Series: Reboot #1
Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).
Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.
The perfect soldier is done taking orders.
At first before reading this, I knew it was some sort of dystopian book and I was right with one thing, but I actually thought it was about robots and androids. I mean there's bar codes and people are labeled and its post apocalyptic and the title Reboot. Reboot really sounds technical and robot language-ish.
First things first. THEY ARE NOT ZOMBIES! Reboots are basically still human but stronger and faster and indestructible unless it involves a bullet. They are just altered humans. They're not brain dead like zombies but emotionally dead. Like they don't have emotions because of how long they died. For Wren she's about half way to emotion dead and half still human. That's because she woke up 178 minutes, 2 hours and 58 minutes. The less you take to wake up, the more emotions/humanity you have. It sounds really confusing and complicated but its not when you read it.
So people are dying and after that they are rebooted meaning reawakened. This was a very interesting take on the post apocalyptic aspect. It was very original and I have never read anything like this.
The relationship between Wren and Callum (22) was so well put. It flowed throughout the story and I really liked their interactions with each other. I will say it was pretty fast but I didn't mind because it worked out so great.
Quick, action packed, cute romance, and a fast read. I recommend you all read it and I can't wait for the next book to come out.
